The white white-sand beaches, cool winds and clear skies have always intrigued certain brides. Brides more and more are booking their weddings on an island and even going as far to delaying the wedding in order to become legally allowed to wed at a beautiful location. Many brides envision their wedding day overlooking a clear blue sky with the warm sand under their feet at destinations like Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean.
Even though you’re far from home and have a shorter guest list, some people don’t feel as if they are missing out on much. The wedding planning continues in the same fashion as if you we’re getting married back home. There will be plenty of complex and thorough planning with a bunch of guests. Yes, you will still be picking out flowers and all the other little things you didn’t think about.
If it’s so similar, why even bother leaving home to get married?
Getting married while on vacation is still a vacation from the normal routine no matter how much planning you are doing. For one, if you decide to get married at home your list of guests will be harder to keep short. When the wedding is taking place farther away it is easier to limit the guests. You know there are guests that won’t show up even if they are invited. On the other hand, the people that are present that day are the ones that really want to be there. It really creates an intimate atmosphere. On most occasions, the couple on their destination is more likely to be relaxed on their wedding day. Brides and grooms usually arrive two or three days before the wedding and get to enjoy themselves. More often than not the wedding starts to become a two to three day long party with many events in between with the guests. The guests who are invited and are able to come begin to look at the wedding almost as a vacation of their own and the married couple to be are excited to spend extra time with their closest friends and family.
This growing trend has hotels and resorts setting up special chapels overlooking a lake or mountainside and offering wedding packages with massages and spa treatments.
Don’t get us wrong. It still isn’t easy to plan a destination wedding. For one, there is a lot of paper work to consider that you would not have to deal with if you we’re getting married in the states. Depending on the country, you will have to produce certain documents such as permits before you can legally marry in that country. If you do decide to go this route, plan way in advance so you can avoid any problems with paper work. You want to have most of it done by the time you arrive there. If it gets confusing, work with a travel agent who knows the ropes a bit more around the country of choice. An experienced agent will have dealt with a destination wedding in the past and can have great advice on a particular city or venue.
No matter what, planning a wedding will be stressful no matter where you get married. Either way, make sure it’s worth it for yourself and you are having the wedding you always dreamt of.
